Preschool Principal

Role and Responsibilities

Responsible for providing instructional leadership, managing and leading the staff, overseeing the centre operation, facility and budget, developing and implementing policies, programs and curriculum activities in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

General Operation

  • Supervise preschool teachers and all other supporting staffs
  • Ensure facilities are maintained and cleaned according to ECDA guidelines
  • Optimise resources (manpower and facilities) through appropriate class schedule planning
  • Ensure enrolment rate is achieved at full capacity
  • Maintain good working order of all facilities and equipment within the centre through good housekeeping and maintenance practices
  • Manage, direct, and maintain records on the materials, supplies and equipment which are necessary to carry out the daily school routine.
  • Maintain and update ECDA Child Care Link System (CCL)
  • Maintain Cambridge IMIS System for child enrolment and invoicing/receipt
  • Develop and maintain staff working schedule and oversee/coordinate scheduling processes
  • Monitor and maintain consistent standard for child behavior, provide activities to involve children in all aspects of early childhood school life, monitor attendance, and maintain guidance, health and food services for the children
  • Meet with parents and staff to discuss students progress
  • Encourage parental participation in the educational process and the school activities
  • Supervise each childs admission, placement, and withdrawal according to established procedures

Organizational Management

  • Establish policies and communicate them to staff and parents
  • Ensures that rules and procedures are in place and enforced to provide a safe, secure, efficient, and orderly learning environment
  • Secures, monitors, and allocates financial, technological, and other resources under his/her control to maximize improvement aligned to the schools mission and goals
  • Ensures systems and structures are in place and used to support efficiency, consistency, and clarity in his/her area of responsibility
  • Be an active listener, maintain cooperative professional relationships, provide opportunities for two-way communication between staff, school and family
  • Communicate a working knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with, school policies and procedures
  • Develop student achievement goals and ensure they are aligned with school-wide goals for whole-child development
  • Monitor the accomplishment of childrens learning goals on an on-going basis (e.g., team/department meetings, professional development activities, parent-teacher conferences, positive interactions).
  • Work within legal, ethical, and professional guidelines to improve student learning and to meet the school`s requirements
  • Communicate, collaborate and engage stakeholders to promote understanding, support, and continuous improvement of the schools programs and services aligned with the schools mission/vision

Human Resources Leadership

  • Provide leadership and management of all teaching and support staff - train and evaluate all staff members, motivate, and provide a positive work environment.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff
  • Assist staff in resolving conflicts between children and communicating with parents
  • Establish budgets and set fees for programs
  • Supervise and evaluate preschool staff members according to a planned sequence of observations and evaluation - Performance Appraisal Process.
  • Develop educational programs and set educational standards
  • Facilitate effective communication with staffs through various channels such as mentoring, meetings, forums, memo and open door policy.
  • Ensure the communication of applicable information with the Centre Director in a timely manner and maintains confidentiality.

Experience, Qualifications and Training Requirements

  • GCE ‘O Level with at least 5 credits including English Language
  • Diploma in Pre-School Education Leadership (DPE-L) / Advance Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Leadership (ADCE-L), or its equivalent recognised by ECDA
  • Has been registered with ECDA and attained a L2 certification
  • Has a valid certificate in first aid recognised by ECDA; and
  • Has at least 5 years teaching experience in a child care/pre-school setting
Preferred Skills
  • Demonstrate good active communicative skills
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and supervisory skills
  • Oversee and direct centre staff, parents and families
  • Ability to liaise with various stakeholders, authorities and organisations
  • Ability to manage centres daily operations, budget, income and expenditure etc.
  • Adequate knowledge of current early childhood care and education development theories, research and practices
  • Is au fait of government regulations, quality assurance framework (Child Care Act and Regulation, SPARK)
