A leading asset management organization is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Data Governance Lead to drive enterprise-wide stewardship of unstructured data assets across a highly sophisticated technology and data environment.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity sitting within the Enterprise & Data Technology function — a team responsible for building the platforms, governance frameworks, and AI-enabled capabilities that power enterprise decision-making at scale.

You will play a critical role in defining how unstructured data is governed, classified, labelled, secured, and leveraged across the organization, partnering closely with data, AI, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strategic thinking, stakeholder influence, and a passion for modern data governance.

The Opportunity

As Data Governance Lead, you will lead initiatives focused on enterprise-scale unstructured data governance and stewardship. You will help establish scalable frameworks, improve data quality and accessibility, and enable advanced AI and analytics capabilities across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Stewardship & Governance

  • Lead enterprise stewardship initiatives for unstructured data assets across the organization.
  • Develop and implement scalable data classification, taxonomy, and labelling standards.
  • Establish governance processes covering data registration, tagging, quality assurance, lifecycle management, and compliance.

Data Classification & Annotation

  • Drive enterprise-wide data annotation and labelling initiatives to improve AI/ML model performance and data discoverability.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for the progressive classification and tagging of unstructured enterprise data.
  • Enhance governance controls and improve recall rates through high-quality annotation processes.

AI, Cybersecurity & Platform Collaboration

  • Partner closely with AI/ML and cybersecurity teams to improve algorithm recognition and reduce misclassification.
  • Support model enhancement discussions through data quality analysis and governance insights.
  • Contribute to the optimization and functional evolution of annotation and stewardship platforms.

Stakeholder Leadership

  • Engage business data owners, stewards, engineers, and technology leaders across multiple functions.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into meaningful business outcomes and governance strategies.
  • Mentor junior team members and help elevate enterprise data stewardship capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience

  • 7–10 years of experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise data stewardship.
  • Strong expertise in unstructured data governance, classification, taxonomy development, and labelling.
  • Experience working alongside AI/ML and cybersecurity teams in enterprise environments.
  • Deep understanding of:
  • Data lifecycle management
  • Data architecture principles
  • Data quality frameworks
  • Enterprise governance standards
  • Hands-on experience with data annotation tools and AI/ML workflows.
  • Proven stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Background

  • Experience within financial services, asset management, investment firms, or highly regulated enterprise environments.
  • Passion for advancing enterprise data governance maturity and enabling AI-driven transformation initiatives.
