Role Overview

The Construction Manager – Data Center is responsible for the on-site execution of mission-critical data center construction projects, with a strong focus on MEP systems, reliability, and commissioning readiness. The role ensures all construction activities meet stringent uptime, redundancy, and quality requirements typical of Tier III / Tier IV facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution (Mission-Critical Focus)

  • Manage day-to-day site operations for data center construction (CSA + MEP).
  • Coordinate contractors across critical systems including power, cooling, and fire protection.
  • Ensure works align with fast-track schedules typical of hyperscale and colocation builds.
MEP Systems Oversight
  • Oversee installation and integration of critical infrastructure: Medium/low voltage power distribution (switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators), cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers), structured cabling and ICT infrastructure.
  • Ensure redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N, etc.) are properly implemented.
Standards & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and authority requirements (e.g., Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority).
  • Align construction with industry standards such as Uptime Institute Tier classifications and/or TIA standards.
Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)
  • Enforce strict safety standards due to high-risk electrical and mechanical works.
  • Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and toolbox meetings.
Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC)
  • Ensure all installations meet mission-critical tolerances and specifications.
  • Monitor inspections, testing, and turnover processes.
  • Manage punch lists and defect rectification.
Testing & Commissioning Support
  • Coordinate with commissioning teams for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Ensure systems are ready for energization and operational validation.
Schedule & Cost Control
  • Track progress against critical milestones (e.g., RFSU – Ready for Service).
  • Identify risks to schedule and implement recovery plans.
  • Support cost tracking, variation orders, and contractor claims.
Vendor & Contractor Coordination
  • Manage general contractors, MEP subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Ensure proper sequencing and interface coordination between trades.
Documentation & Handover
  • Ensure completion of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and turnover packages.
  • Support smooth transition to operations and facilities teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Greenfield project execution strongly preferred).
  • 5–10 years of construction experience, with data center or mission-critical project exposure.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in high-availability environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center builds.
  • Familiarity with redundancy design (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1).
  • Certifications such as PMP, LEED, or commissioning-related credentials.
  • Experience working with international contractors and fast-track delivery models.
