Principal Architecture Design Engineer

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior AI Chip Architecture Design Engineer to lead the development and optimization of complex AI hardware systems. This technically demanding role involves independently designing sophisticated simulators, driving performance optimization strategies across various levels of the chip, and leading the development of critical front-end code to ensure the functionality and performance of cutting-edge AI chips. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working with advanced AI hardware accelerators and will be adept at leading collaborations across interdisciplinary teams to drive significant advancements in AI chip design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Simulator Design (Leadership & Execution):
  • Lead the design and development of advanced simulators for AI chips using tools like GEM5, ensuring high accuracy, efficiency, and scalability for complex chip behaviors and diverse AI workloads.
  • Direct the refinement of simulation models to rigorously validate chip functionality, optimize resource allocation strategically, and accurately predict performance under demanding conditions.
• Performance Optimization (Strategic Leadership & Implementation):
  • Algorithm Level: Architect and implement significant enhancements to computational algorithms, achieving substantial improvements in efficiency and latency for critical AI-specific tasks.
  • Architecture Level: Architect and refine the core architecture of AI chips, making critical decisions on the layout and interaction of processing elements to maximize performance and minimize power consumption.
  • Circuit Level: Drive improvements in low-level electrical performance, ensuring robust and efficient chip operation at the physical level through advanced optimization of power and area.
• Front-End Code Development (Leadership & Innovation):
  • Lead the development, testing, and optimization of complex front-end code to fully support advanced AI chip functionalities and ensure seamless compatibility with the chips innovative architecture.
  • Collaborate strategically with software teams to ensure efficient and robust integration of AI hardware and software, enabling optimal execution of sophisticated AI models.
• Collaboration & Mentorship:
  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and verification teams, ensuring AI hardware consistently meets stringent performance and functional specifications.
  • Take ownership of the development of comprehensive documentation and reports on critical design decisions, advanced performance optimizations, and detailed system-level simulations.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background:
  • Minimum Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field. Masters or PhD degree strongly preferred.
• Technical Knowledge:
  • Expert-level understanding of computer architecture and deep expertise in AI hardware accelerators (e.g., GPUs, TPUs, and emerging architectures).
  • Deep understanding of memory access patterns in complex AI models and a proven ability to develop and implement sophisticated memory handling strategies for optimal performance in demanding data-intensive AI workloads.
  • Extensive experience in designing and developing advanced hardware simulators and performance profiling tools.
  • Significant experience with hardware description languages (HDL) like Verilog or VHDL, including complex design and verification.
• Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of independently tackling and resolving highly complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively guide and influence interdisciplinary teams.
  • Outstanding proficiency in written and spoken English for clear and concise communication, comprehensive documentation, and impactful reporting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
