Corrosion Prevention Foreman

Position Overview: The Corrosion Prevention Foreman will oversee the blasting and painting operations for corrosion control. This role is essential in ensuring the integrity and longevity of materials and structures by implementing effective corrosion protection measures. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading teams, managing blasting and painting processes, and working with specialized coatings and corrosion control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and Coordinate Operations:

  • Supervise a team of blasters and painters responsible for abrasive blasting and painting operations.
  • Plan and schedule daily work assignments based on project requirements, timelines, and priorities.
  • Ensure all blasting and painting activities comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.

Corrosion Control:

  • Oversee the application of corrosion-resistant coatings.
  • Ensure proper surface preparation, including abrasive blasting and cleaning, is carried out to meet specified standards.
  • Monitor coating thickness, adhesion, and other quality parameters to ensure optimal corrosion protection.

Quality Assurance:

  • Review and approve blasting and painting specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
  • Conduct quality checks during and after application to ensure the integrity of the coating system.
  • Maintain accurate records of coatings, processes, and inspections.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct safety briefing and ensure the team adheres to proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and hazard communication procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate any potential risks associated with blasting and painting operations.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels of abrasives, paints, and related materials.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials according to regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to order necessary supplies and materials.

Training & Development:

  • Provide on-the-job training to team members to ensure proficiency in the latest blasting and coating techniques.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to adopt best practices and new technologies in corrosion prevention.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of all blasting and painting operations, including work performed, materials used, and quality control results.
  • Prepare and submit reports on the status of corrosion prevention efforts to management.
  • Document any deviations from standard procedures and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  • Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Preferably Certification in corrosion control or coatings application (e.g., NACE, SSPC) is highly desirable.
  • Relevant technical certifications or training in abrasive blasting and industrial painting.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in corrosion prevention, blasting, and painting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive knowledge of blasting equipment, painting systems, and corrosion control methods.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in corrosion prevention and surface preparation.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques, including abrasive blasting, power tooling, and mechanical cleaning.
  • Proficiency in the application of industrial coatings, including epoxy, polyurethane, and other anti-corrosive materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality control documentation.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces, elevated areas, and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, protective clothing, and eye protection.

Working Conditions:

  • Work may be performed in various environments, including industrial sites, outdoors, or in confined spaces.
  • The role may require travel to different project sites.
  • May require working in various weather conditions (e.g., hot, rainy).
