Senior Director, Surgical & Vision Care Field MSL Team, APAC

Lead the APAC Field Medical Affairs (MSL) team, liaise with the APAC leadership team, and provide strategic direction to Regional Heads for Global Medical Affairs. Manage country medical responsibilities and drive global alignment across functions.

ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Management
  • Recruit, on‑board, and coordinate the training of APAC MSLs and Senior Managers.
  • Oversee all aspects of the Performance Management Process for the APAC MSL team.
  • Ensure alignment and collaboration of the MSL team with key Alcon functions, optimizing support and alignment.
  • Communicate routinely with peer leadership in APAC medical and cross‑functional teams (HEOR, Therapeutic Area Leads, Franchise, Marketing, Medical Information, Regulatory Affairs, etc.) to ensure proper communication and execution of key initiatives.
Strategic Planning and Project/KOL Management
  • Collaborate with the Head, VP, Global Field Medical Affairs and Therapeutic Area Leads to develop strategy and tactical objectives for all therapeutic areas within medical affairs, with emphasis on the APAC MSL organization.
  • Lead project management of the APAC MSL organization, including KOL/territory planning, investigator‑initiated trials, insight generation, congresses, and reporting.
  • Serve as the interface between the APAC MSL team and the Global Head of Field Medical Affairs, GMA pillars, Franchise organization, Commercial, R&D, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the external scientific KOL management partner, maintaining key external scientific relationships and deep scientific understanding of the portfolio.
Budget Management
  • Collaborate with finance colleagues, Global Head of Field Medical Affairs, and other medical colleagues to strategically plan and execute the APAC Medical Affairs budget.
  • Define and manage the annual budget for APAC and remain accountable to the Global MSL team.
  • Effectively manage the APAC MSL budget, including travel and expenses, and review and approve monthly expense reports as appropriate.
QualificationsEducation
  • Medical Doctor (MD) required.
  • Specialization in Ophthalmology strongly preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Medical Affairs or related functions.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership or management experience with team oversight.
  • Experience operating within a matrixed, global organization.
  • Strong background in ophthalmology and/or medical devices (highly preferred).
  • Experience supporting or partnering with research and scientific initiatives, including clinical or translational work.
  • Exposure to or leadership of KOL engagement strategies and external scientific collaboration.
Medical Affairs Capabilities
  • Proven experience in Medical Science Liaison (MSL) leadership or management preferred.
  • Ability to translate scientific data into impactful medical strategies and insights.
  • Track record of driving evidence generation, publication planning, and scientific exchange.
Leadership & Impact
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams across regions.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Experience building and scaling high‑performing Medical Affairs teams.
  • Strong communication skills bridging science, research, and commercial strategy.
  • Experience in APAC, ideally with regulatory and ophthalmology exposure.
Location

Position can be based in Singapore Head Office or Bengaluru. Domestic and international travel required: 65‑75%.
