Overview
You will advance molecular and genomic diagnostic capabilities through hands-on development, evaluation, and validation of innovative diagnostic technologies for clinical implementation. Working within a multidisciplinary clinical and research environment, you will support translational research and collaborate with senior scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians to evaluate emerging platforms, optimise assays, and support institutional precision medicine workflows.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assay Development & Validation - Develop, evaluate, optimise and validate novel molecular and genomic diagnostic assays and workflows (across molecular microbiology and human genetics disciplines). This includes benchmarking of new instrumentation, sequencing technologies and bioinformatic software.
- Analyze and troubleshoot molecular and genomic data and optimise assay parameters to ensure robust and reproducible performance.
- Execute analytical and clinical validation protocols in accordance with laboratory accreditation standards, and maintain accurate records for downstream clinical interpretation and reporting.
- Draft Standard Operating Procedures, technical reports, validation reports and implementation documentation.
- Review emerging scientific literature to suggest operational improvements or new technologies for the laboratory.
- Contribute to grant applications and scientific manuscripts.
- Coordinate with clinical partners and academic researchers to support collaborative projects.
- Contribute actively to departmental meetings, scientific presentations, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
- Perform other operational duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer.
Requirements
- PhD in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Genomics, Genetics, Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of post-PhD professional experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory, academic research institute, public health laboratory, or related organization.
- Hands-on expertise with PCR, real-time PCR (qPCR), digital PCR (dPCR), next-generation sequencing (NGS), and library preparation workflows.
- Proven track record executing assay development, optimization, or analytical validation protocols within a regulated or diagnostic environment.
- Strong technical writing, clinical data management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work productively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
