Team Lead, Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing
The Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of security consultants to deliver high-quality security testing engagements while ensuring effective resource management, delivery governance, quality assurance, team development, and customer satisfaction. The role combines people leadership, operational oversight, stakeholder management, and continuous improvement responsibilities, with selective involvement in technical delivery activities.
People Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, coach, and develop team members to achieve performance, capability, and career development objectives.
- Set clear expectations, monitor performance, provide regular feedback, and address performance or well-being concerns proactively.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
Resource & Capacity Management
- Plan and allocate resources across engagements based on business priorities, consultant capabilities, availability, and development objectives.
- Monitor team capacity, utilisation, training commitments, and upcoming demand to ensure effective workforce planning.
- Identify and resolve resource constraints, capability gaps, and scheduling conflicts in collaboration with leadership and peer team leads.
Delivery Governance & Operational Oversight
- Maintain oversight of engagement delivery, including schedules, milestones, risks, quality, scope, and customer commitments.
- Ensure engagements are appropriately staffed, governed, and executed in accordance with established methodologies and operational standards.
- Conduct regular delivery reviews, manage escalations, and drive timely resolution of delivery risks and issues.
Quality & Technical Oversight
- Ensure appropriate technical review, quality assurance, and governance are applied across engagements.
- Monitor delivery quality trends and implement corrective actions through coaching, process improvements, and review controls.
- Escalate significant technical findings, delivery concerns, or customer-impacting issues for specialist review and approval where required.
Consultant Development & Capability Building
- Develop and maintain capability development plans for team members, including technical skills, certifications, consulting competencies, and leadership growth.
- Partner with senior consultants to deliver coaching, mentoring, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and methodology enhancements.
- Identify and address capability gaps through targeted hiring, training, and development programs.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Oversee customer communications and engagement outcomes to ensure service quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Support consultants in managing complex customer situations, delivery concerns, and escalation matters.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align delivery priorities, resource requirements, and customer expectations.
AI-Enabled Delivery & Continuous Improvement
- Promote the responsible adoption of AI, automation, and approved tooling to enhance delivery quality and operational efficiency.
- Ensure AI-generated outputs are independently validated and governed in accordance with quality, security, and customer requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement of methodologies, processes, reporting, platforms, and operational workflows.
Hands-On Delivery Support
- Maintain sufficient technical involvement to provide leadership, quality oversight, and delivery guidance.
- Support complex or high-priority engagements where leadership involvement adds value, including planning, quality reviews, escalation management, and consultant development.
- Balance delivery participation with primary responsibilities for team leadership, operational management, and governance.
Requirements:
- Ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams in a technical environment, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and accountability while effectively managing workforce challenges, fostering professional relationships, and exercising sound judgement in people-related matters. Prior people management experience is advantageous.
- Practical understanding of vulnerability assessment and penetration-testing delivery across areas such as web applications, APIs, mobile applications, networks, infrastructure, cloud environments or source code.
- Experience managing multiple projects, engagements, or teams concurrently, with the ability to plan resources, balance competing priorities, manage delivery risks, and ensure quality, governance, and successful delivery outcomes. Capable of making sound operational decisions in dynamic environments while applying appropriate escalation and approval processes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and delivery matters to diverse audiences, manage challenging stakeholder situations, present evidence-based recommendations, and build trusted customer relationships while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and develop team capabilities through training, mentoring, and succession planning initiatives, while continuously improving team performance and adapting to new technical or operational domains to support effective decision-making and long-term organizational capability growth.
- Understanding of AI and automation technologies and their application in security operations, with the ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs, identify automation opportunities, and apply appropriate governance, data protection, and human oversight practices. Experience developing AI-enabled or automated workflows is an advantage.
