Designation: Deputy Laboratory Director
Job Overview
Lead and manage healthcare laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality standards, and operational efficiency. Responsible for team leadership, workflow optimization, and maintaining excellence in laboratory services.
Qualifications and Experience
A doctoral degree in medicine or healthcare or related discipline is a must
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the activities carried out in the experience in immunogenetics of transplantation, basic or clinical immunology, immunohematology, basic or clinical hematology, transfusion medicine, blood or tissue banking, or cryobiology. - preferred
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in healthcare laboratory operations management role. - preferred
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management
Staff Supervision: Oversee and manage laboratory personnel, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and ensuring staff adherence to protocols.
Team Coordination: Foster teamwork among lab staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Budget Management: Oversee the laboratory’s budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation, equipment procurement, and facility maintenance.
2. Compliance & Quality Control
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the lab adheres to regulatory guidelines, such as HSCA, AABB, FACT, and other relevant standards.
Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality control programs to ensure the accuracy, precision, and reliability of laboratory results.
Safety Protocols: Ensure the laboratory operates in a safe environment, following safety protocols for handling hazardous materials and chemicals.
3. Operational Oversight
Protocol Development: Design and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab processes and testing methods.
Workflow Optimization: Streamline laboratory workflows to increase efficiency and reduce bottlenecks or delays in testing and reporting.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning.
4. Budgeting & Resource Management
Resource Allocation: Manage the laboratory’s resources, including reagents, equipment, and consumables, to ensure timely testing and operations.
Cost Control: Oversee cost management to prevent overspending and ensure the lab remains financially viable.
5. Research & Development
Innovation & Technology Integration: Stay current with advances in laboratory technology and incorporate new methods to improve lab capabilities and services.
Method Validation: Evaluate and validate new test methods and equipment to ensure their effectiveness and accuracy.
6. Reporting
Timely Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely processing and reporting of laboratory results to healthcare providers or clients.
7. Training & Education
Staff Development: Organize ongoing training and professional development opportunities for laboratory staff to keep them up-to-date with advancements and best practices.
8. Collaboration & Communication
Internal Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with other departments (e.g., clinical staff, research teams, administration).
External Communication: Communicate effectively with external parties such as regulatory bodies and suppliers.
9. Accreditation & Auditing
Accreditation: Ensure the lab achieves and maintains accreditations (e.g., HSCA FACT, AABB, ISO etc) and prepares for audits or inspections.
Continuous Improvement: Implement corrective actions following internal or external audits to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
10. Others
Any other duties as assigned by Reporting Officer.
