Role Overview
As the Regional Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Leader, you will play a vital role in promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible work environment across multiple locations within IMI. This role supports the delivery of HSE priorities across the assigned geography, working closely with Sector HSE Directors and site teams to translate strategic priorities into practical, measurable improvement, including direct tactical support where required. Operating across all sectors present in the region, the role provides an important connection between site-level activity and wider HSE direction, helping to ensure consistent progress and effective implementation.
The Regional HSE Leader will work with Site HSE Managers and leadership teams to support delivery, remove blockers and help drive measurable year-on-year improvement.
Coverage note: This role covers APAC sites. The current footprint includes sites across South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. APAC sites across the region (e.g., Australia, Singapore, India, Japan, South Korea and China). Scope may change as the footprint evolves.
Success in this role is measured by impact. The postholder will be expected to look beyond process compliance and reporting, focusing on meaningful and lasting improvement. This includes identifying root causes behind incidents, constructively challenging existing approaches where appropriate, and supporting corrective actions through to effective resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Execution
- Receive and internalise sector HSE priorities from each Sector HSE Director at the start of each performance cycle.
- Translate strategic priorities into clear, site-level action plans within 30 days of each cycle.
- Ensure all Site HSE Managers in the region understand what is expected of them and by when.
- Manage competing sector priorities across the geography, agreeing sequencing with the relevant Sector HSE Director(s) and escalating where additional prioritisation is required.
Driving Site-Level Change
- Work with Site HSE Managers to implement agreed improvement actions, with a strong focus on practical delivery.
- Visit sites purposefully, with each visit linked to clear objectives and improvement outcomes.
- Support and constructively challenge Site HSE Managers to build capability and sustain progress.
- Where progress is delayed or additional support is required, work with the relevant Sector HSE Director to agree a recovery plan.
Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Governance
- Produce high-quality reports and presentations within agreed timelines, ensuring they are clear, accurate and fit for purpose.
- Track progress against site improvement plans on a monthly basis.
- Report outcomes, not only activities, to the relevant Sector HSE Directors monthly.
- Identify and raise risks, blockers and areas requiring additional focus in a timely and constructive way.
- Maintain a clear picture of the performance status of every site in the region at all times.
Feedback & Ground Reality
- Provide insight between sites and sector strategy, helping to reflect site-level realities, opportunities and challenges.
- Surface systemic issues that cannot be resolved at site level and escalate appropriately.
- Identify best practice within the region and facilitate sharing across sites and sectors.
- Provide clear, evidence-based input to Sector HSE Directors’ strategy reviews.
Vacancy & Continuity Management
- When a Site HSE Manager vacancy arises in the region, support appropriate interim arrangements to maintain HSE oversight at that site.
- Work with the Group HSE Director and relevant Sector HSE Director to ensure vacancies are appropriately managed.
- Support onboarding of new Site HSE Managers to ensure continuity of improvement plans.
Cross-Sector Coordination
- Operate across all sectors present in the geography — Industrial Automation, Process Automation, Life Science, Transport, Climate Control.
- Build effective working relationships with all Sector HSE Directors providing strategic direction for the region.
- Help ensure all sites receive appropriate focus, taking account of sector complexity within the geography.
Leadership, Culture & Training
- Coach and support Site HSE Managers to build capability in areas such as problem solving, investigation quality and risk assessment quality, helping to sustain improvements over time, while also being able to switch from strategic direction to hands-on tactical support when site needs require it.
- Ensure mandatory HSE training requirements are planned, completed and effective across sites in the region (supporting delivery where required).
- Promote consistent safety culture expectations across sites and work with the relevant Sector HSE Director(s) where additional leadership support may be required.
Risk, Incident & Assurance
- Following each site HSE visit conducted by the Regional HSE Leader, prepare and present a structured findings report using the standard presentation format, submitted to site leadership, the Sector HSE Director, and the Group HSE Director within two weeks of the visit. Reports should include key observations, identified risks, recommended corrective actions and agreed timelines for resolution.
- Act as Lead Auditor for assessments in-region when assigned under the sector assessment programme; support delivery of the agreed annual assessment plan.
- Investigate and analyse accidents and incidents within your region, assisting site HSE managers with incident investigation, identifying root causes and driving continuous improvement through robust preventative measures.
- Monitor and support the industrial hygiene programme across your region.
Continuous Improvement & Other Duties
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging regulatory developments, proactively recommending improvements to your regional stakeholders.
- Carry out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested.

- Year-on-year improvement in global audit scores across all sites in the region.
- Delivery of site improvement plans within agreed timescales.
- Reduction in repeat audit findings at regional sites.
- Timeliness and quality of monthly outcome reporting to Sector Directors.
- Timely support for site vacancies and performance risks.
- Feedback from Sector HSE Directors and Site HSE Managers on effectiveness.
Critical Competencies for Success
- Relevant HSE qualifications or certifications, such as a Bachelor’s degree, CSP, RSPP, NEBOSH or equivalent.
- Typically brings at least 5 years’ experience in an HSE leadership role, ideally with multi-site or regional experience.
- In-depth technical/practical knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices at a sector level.
- Proven record of success in HSE with strong understanding and exposure to operational activities in a similar industry, delivering results and improved performance,
- Can positively influence and communicate with Senior leadership teams to promote HSE excellence.
- Excellent communication skills to engage and train employees at all levels across different sites.
- Demonstrate ability to work in a metrics focused environment including weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting and analysis.
- Able to operate effectively within a global manufacturing/technology business, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on operational and tactical support when needed.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of HSE management systems, environmental, fire and industrial hygiene processes, ergonomics, incident reporting and investigation procedures, auditing and safety systems and processes.
- Understanding of the relevant ISO accreditation framework is essential.
- Strong understanding of HSE standards (regulatory compliance, occupational health and safety etc).
- Auditing management systems (e.g., ISO 19011) would be an advantage.
- Strong computer literate skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Competent in A3 problem solving and coach the local teams through the process, and confirm countermeasures are locked in and sustained.
