Engineering Manager (Asst)

1. Full Business Ownership & Strategic Leadership
  • Own P&L (Profit & Loss) for the business unit or company.
  • Define long-term vision and growth strategy that leverages technology as a competitive advantage.
  • Conduct market research, trend analysis, and competitive benchmarking to steer business direction.
  • Identify and pursue new revenue streams, including tech-enabled services or products.
  • Lead annual and quarterly strategic planning sessions with the leadership team.
  • Approve business priorities, product portfolio, and market expansion strategies.
2. Multi-Department Leadership
  • Lead and oversee all functions: engineering, product, sales, marketing, operations, HR, and finance.
  • Recruit and manage department heads (including tech leads, sales directors, marketing managers, etc.).
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment so all teams work toward the same business objectives.
  • Balance resource allocation between technical and commercial needs.
3. Engineering & Technical Strategy
  • Set the technology vision and roadmap in alignment with business goals.
  • Approve system architectures, technology stacks, and major technical investments.
  • Oversee software/hardware development, ensuring quality, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of technical innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage technical risk and reduce technical debt while supporting rapid delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, data protection laws, and security requirements.
4. Project & Product Delivery
  • Drive delivery of high-impact products and features with market timing in mind.
  • Prioritize engineering work based on business ROI and strategic value.
  • Shorten time-to-market without sacrificing quality.
  • Oversee Agile/Scrum/Kanban processes across teams.
  • Coordinate with product management to align technical execution with customer needs.
5. Financial & Operational Management
  • Own full business budget, including engineering, marketing, operations, and overhead costs.
  • Optimize infrastructure, tooling, and operational expenses.
  • Forecast financial performance and adjust plans based on market changes.
  • Approve major capital expenditures for technology or expansion.
  • Implement KPIs to track business health and operational efficiency.
6. Stakeholder, Board, and Investor Relations
  • Present quarterly and annual business results to board members or shareholders.
  • Communicate strategic initiatives, progress, and challenges to executive leadership.
  • Negotiate with major clients, partners, and vendors.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and in media.
  • Maintain relationships with investors, securing funding if required.
7. Risk, Compliance, and Business Continuity
  • Oversee enterprise-wide risk management, covering market, operational, technical, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, industry standards, and data privacy laws.
  • Implement disaster recovery and crisis management plans.
  • Maintain system resilience and security to support business continuity.
8. Culture, Talent, and Leadership Development
  • Build a high-performance culture across all departments.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Implement leadership development programs for senior staff.
  • Retain top engineering talent by creating clear career paths and growth opportunities.
  • Promote a balance of innovation, accountability, and customer focus.
